Dr. Randall Cornateanu

Dr. Randall Cornateanu is a distinguished general and bariatric surgeon who is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He practices at Ocean Surgical, which is located in Orange County, California. He specializes in foregut, gastroesophageal reflux, and bariatricsurgical procedures with additional expertise in minimally invasive surgery such as robotic and laparoscopic approaches.

Dr. Cornateanu embarked on his educational journey at the prestigious University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in biopsychology. Following his undergraduate studies, he gained admission to The Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine New York State/American Program. Demonstrating exceptional dedication and talent, he achieved his Doctor of Medicine degree.

To further refine his surgical expertise, Dr. Cornateanu completed a comprehensive residency in general surgery at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Additionally, he pursued specialized training in gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery during his fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.

Driven by his commitment to continuous professional growth, Dr. Cornateanu actively engages in ongoing education to enhance his skills and stay abreast of the latest advancements in his field. He proudly maintains membership in esteemed organizations such as the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Michael Tran

Dr. Michael Tran, MD
Co-President, Ocean Surgical

Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. Michael N. Tran is a highly skilled Foregut, Bariatric, and General Surgeon, certified by the
American Board of Surgery, specializing in foregut, gastroesophageal reflux, and bariatric
surgical procedures. With extensive experience in advanced laparoscopic and robotic
techniques, Dr. Tran has made significant contributions to the field of surgery.


Dr. Tran currently serves as the Co-President of Ocean Surgical Inc. In this role, he leads a team
of healthcare professionals and oversees the delivery of specialized surgical care.
Dr. Tran completed his undergraduate as well as his medical school education at the University
of Wisconsin - Madison. He then went on and completed his general surgery residency at Rush
University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. Following his residency, he completed his fellowship in
Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Foregut surgery, at the University of California – Irvine.


Having a strong commitment to education and training, Dr. Tran has held various attending
appointments and has been actively involved in training general surgery residents. He has
contributed to the development of future surgeons at Riverside Community Hospital in
Riverside, CA. In addition, he serves as an attending at Corona Regional Medical Center for the
UHS Southern California Medical Education Consortium General Surgery residency. Dr. Tran has
also been affiliated with prestigious academic institutions, including the University of California
Riverside and the University of California Irvine.


Throughout his career, Dr. Tran has been dedicated to advancing surgical techniques and
patient care. He has obtained several certifications, including Robotic Surgery Certification and
Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF). He is also certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life
Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and
Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS).


Dr. Tran is an active member of professional societies such as the American College of
Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the
American Foregut Society (AFS), the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
(ASMBS), and the American Medical Association. He has served on various committees within
these organizations, including the Quality, Outcomes and Safety Committee and the Technology
and Value Assessment Committee of SAGES. For the American Foregut Society, He serves on
the Clinical Practice Committee, TIF Guidelines Subcommittee, AFS Textbook subcommittee,
and on the AFS Heartburn Center subcommittee.


Dr. Tran remains committed to delivering high-quality surgical care, advancing surgical
techniques, and improving patient outcomes. With his expertise and dedication, Dr. Michael N.
Tran continues to make a significant impact in the field of surgery. Dr. Tran places emphasis on
